North Bay Jazz Calendar: March, 2012
Jazz Master Bennett Friedman on March 9 at SRJC; SSU Jazz will rock the joint this Thursday with Ron Dziubla, sax (details below), and Healdsburg Jazz Festival has an event March 30th – TBA – I know who but I’m not tellin’ until they announce it. I will be there for certain and if you love jazz so will you when you find out. Why not become a member and join their mailing so you won’t miss it – just in case.
Speaking of not telling: Did you see the KQED doc on “Jazz in Montmartre” – Think about it! And on Feb 27th, Monday night at 10, KQED presents Cab Calloway: Sketches – history of jazz in Harlem. Record it, watch it, love it. And Michael Bolivar is back; he’ll be blowin’ the real deal here in concert this summer as well, but if you feel like getting funky in the meantime, he’ll be at Aubergine in Sebastopol this Friday night – details below.
In the meantime, Hotel Healdsburg has lots of live jazz, on the menu, too, as does Dry Creek Kitchen in Healdsburg, and Napa Valley Opera House features Natalie Cole on Feb 25th

As a saxophonist/multi-instrumentalist, Ron Dziubla has toured and recorded with Ricky Martin, Duane Eddy, Kid Ramos, Lynwood Slim, Rick Holmstrom, Deke Dickerson and the Ecco-Fonics, Eddie Baytos and the Nervis Brothers, Royal Crown Revue, Janiva Magness, James Intveld, the Hollywood Combo, the Blue Rhythm Jazz Orchestra, and many more. He will play with SSU’s jazz groups as a guest artist.

Longtime Sonoma County Sax star Michael Bolivar, brings his funky jazz to Aubergine in Sebastopol- he’s coming home to Sonoma County and you’ll hear him here in concert this Summer. With Michael will be Tim Haggerty on Keys, Randy Quan on Guitar, Blair Hardman on Bass and Aaron Haggerty on Drums.

March 23rd: Trumpet star Dave Rocha has an upcoming gig in Sonoma. He’ll be joined by SSU guitarist Randy Vincent and Chuck Bennett on Bass. They’ll be at the Plaza Bistro from 7-10.
Swing Seven has some dates coming up at the Hydro in Calistoga – great food, fine jazz.
